Michael Pengchung Lee, 27, of Tucson, Pima County, Arizona, United States is accused of threatening to commit a mass shooting at the University of Arizona in Tucson. He is not affiliated with the university.

Lee is accused of transmitting threats to commit a mass shooting at the university in a group chat on Snapchat. He allegedly expressed a desire to get revenge on all the chads and stacies, a reference to fraternity and sorority members.

Chads and stacies are terms self-described involuntary celibates or incels commonly use to describe attractive young men and women. Lee allegedly made further reference to incel ideology.

“im gonna do it guys,” Lee allegedly wrote. “my mind is made up and there’s nothing u can do or say to stop me.”

As part of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Southern Arizona Violent Crime and Gang Task Force, the University of Arizona Police Department conducted an investigation in the case. They watched Lee for 24 hours.

On October 25, 2023, Lee was pulled over for speeding and arrested on a federal complaint warrant by the task force. The U.S. will have 30 days from arrest to indict him.

The Tucson man told authorities he is a former member of the incel community. He was charged federally with making the online threats.
