Raymond Robert Peterson, 56, of Lockport, Will County, Illinois, United States is in jail. He is accused of communicating with someone he thought was a minor but was actually an undercover officer.
From October 25-26, 2023, the Division of Criminal Investigation Trafficking Enforcement Bureau of the Illinois State Police conducted an anti-human trafficking operation in the Will County area. It resulted in the arrests of six men including Peterson.
The operation focused on identifying adults seeking to engage in commercial sex acts with minors. It was a part of a multifaceted approach by the Illinois State Police aimed at stopping human trafficking in Illinois.
Peterson and the five other arrestees were booked into the Will County Jail in Joliet, Illinois. They were each charged with indecent solicitation of a minor and traveling to meet a minor.
According to Illinois State Police director Brendan F. Kelly, the agency conducted a similar operation in Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois that resulted in the arrests of eight people. He said the agency is increasing its efforts to protect people who are vulnerable to human trafficking, forced labor and sexual servitude.
