Evelyn Fernandez, 44, used to be a police lieutenant in Miami Dade County, Florida, United States. She is currently in jail.

Fernandez used to date Carlos Alvarez, 70, who was born in Havana, Cuba. He joined the Miami-Dade Police Department in 1976 and served as the sixth mayor of Miami-Dade County from November 6, 2004 to March 18, 2011.

In 2013, Alvarez got into bodybuilding and allegedly started being violent toward Fernandez. In April 2016, he was arrested on a domestic battery charge after a fight with her.

On July 17, 2016, Fernandez was arrested while she was employed as a Miami-Dade Police Department officer. She was accused of breaking into Alvarez’s apartment in Coral Gables, Miami-Dade County and ransacking it.

Fernandez was charged with burglary to an unoccupied structure and criminal mischief valued at over $1,000. On September 20, 2016, the charges were dismissed.

In 2022, Fernandez started dating a retired Miami-Dade Police Department major, whose name was not released. Recently, they ended their relationship and since then, she allegedly had been stalking him.

In the second week of October 2023, Fernandez allegedly threatened to kill her former boyfriend’s children in front of him. At around 6:30 p.m. on October 26, 2023, she allegedly got into an argument with him in Homestead, Miami-Dade County and shot at him.

While Fernandez missed, she hit her ex-boyfriend’s car. After fleeing the scene, she barricaded herself inside the residence of her daughter’s boyfriend in Richmond West, Miami-Dade County while her family members were inside.

After a 14-hour standoff, Fernandez was taken into custody on October 27, 2023. She was charged with attempted first-degree murder, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, shooting or throwing a deadly missile, resisting an officer with violence and battery of a law enforcement officer.
