Elijah Jaquan Wilson of Tampa, Hillsborough County, Florida, United States has died. He was 14.
Wilson is Emmitt Wilson‘s son and Wondra Grooms‘ nephew. Emmitt told WFLA that he lost another child in 2014.
On the early morning of October 29, 2023, Elijah was in an area in Ybor City, Tampa with several bars and club. Just before 3:00 a.m., at least two shooters opened fire and at least 20 people were shot.
Two of the victims died. One was a man, 22, and the other one was Elijah.
According to the Tampa Police Department, a fight between two groups sparked the gunfire. Tyrell Stephen Phillips, 22, of Tampa is allegedly one of the shooters.
Hours after the shooting, Phillips was arrested. He was charged with second-degree murder with a firearm.
Phillips remains jailed pending an initial court appearance on October 30, 2023. At least one other suspect is being sought.
