Michael Jerome Hairston of Martinsville, Henry County, Virginia, United States has died. He was 46.
Born in Martinsville, Hairston attended Laurel Park High School in Martinsville. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
At around 7:08 p.m. on October 23, 2023, Angelina Spade, 19, of Hardy, Virginia and a man allegedly went to Hairston’s apartment in Martinsville. Spade and her companion allegedly fled the scene after shooting Hairston inside the apartment.
A neighbor’s doorbell camera captured two people appearing to go inside the apartment that evening. Both were seen running off several minutes later.
When Hairston did not show up for work, Henry County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to his apartment to do a welfare check. They went into the apartment and found him dead with gunshot wounds.
On the evening of October 31, 2023, Spade was arrested in Roanoke, Virginia and booked into the Roanoke City Jail in Roanoke. She is being held without bond.
Spade was charged with first-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Whether or not Hairston knew her is still unclear.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is aware of the identity of the male suspect but has yet to release it. He has yet to be charged or arrested.
