Irina Garcia of Hialeah, Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States has died. She was 39.
Garcia and Jose Garcia’s son Derek Rosa was born in 2010. Irina is no longer in a relationship with Jose, who was in the military for 22 years.
As an eighth grader at iMater Academy in Hialeah, Rosa was a straight A student. He lived in an apartment in Hialeah with Irina and her partner.
Irina’s partner is a truck driver, On September 29, 2023, she gave birth to their daughter.
On October 12, 2023, Rosa fatally stabbed Irina while she was sleeping in her bedroom next to a crib where her daughter was sleeping. He took photos of his mother’s body, send them to a friend on social media,
At 11:30 p.m., Rosa called 911 and reported the murder. That night, Irina’s partner was in Georgia, USA working as a truck driver.
On October 27, 2023, Rosa’s family appeared before a bond court judge to plead for a second chance. Jose and his mother testified on behalf of the teenager, who was denied bond and is being tried as an adult.
Initially charged with second-degree murder, Rosa was indicted by a grand jury on a first-degree murder charge. He could face up to life in prison and will not be facing the death penalty.
On October 31, 2023, Rosa entered a plea of not guilty and requested a jury trial. His private attorney Kristen Reynoso filed a motion to transfer him from the MetroWest Detention Center in Miami, Miami-Dade County to the Miami-Dade Juvenile Detention Center in Miami.
