Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter Derrick Lewis, 38, of Houston, Texas, United States was arrested for reckless driving in Harris County, Texas on October 25, 2023. He was released after he posted a $100 personal recognizance bond.

That day, Lewis allegedly drove at 136 mph in a 50 mph zone in a red Lamborghini. He allegedly made unsafe lane changes and swerved in and out of lanes while school buses were on the road.

On December 17, 2023, Lewis will appear in court. He is represented by Edward Chernoff.

This not the first time Lewis was arrested. Two weeks after his high school graduation in 2004, he was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.

In 2006, Lewis was attending Kilgore College in Kilgore, Texas on a full scholarship for football when he violated his probation. He was sentenced to five years in prison but he ended up serving three years and six months only.

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, Lewis made his professional mixed martial arts debut in 2010. He has been competing in the UFC since 2014.

On November 4, 2023, Lewis and Jailton Almeda, 32, of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil will headline “UFC Fight Night 231” at Ginásio do Ibirapuera in São Paulo, Brazil. They will battle it out in the heavyweight division.

Lewis holds a professional MMA record of 27 wins, 11 losses and 1 No Contest. Almeida has 19 wins and 2 losses.
