Michael Carlos Reese, 38, is a convicted sex offender with violent tendencies. He lived at a halfway house in Willimantic, Windham, Windham County, Connecticut, United States while on probation with an ankle monitor.
The house can hold up to two convicted sex offenders who served prison time and were transitioning back into the community. It is a part of a Re-Entry Assisted Community Housing (REACH ) House location in Willimantic,
In 2007, Reese was convicted of first-degree sexual assault and assault out of New Haven, New Haven County, Connecticut. He was sentenced to serve 17 years of a 25-year sentence followed by 10 years of probation.
After completing a residential treatment program, Reese transitioned to the halfway house in Willimantic. On October 28, 2023, he had an appointment at the house with a female visiting nurse.
It was the nurse’s first appointment of the day and it was supposed to take 8 minutes only. Her name was not shared publicly.
At around 2:00 p.m. on October 28, 2023, the nurse was reported missing by her family. While investigating the nurse’s disappearance, the Willimantic Police Department found her car at a business near the residence.
A police K-9 unit conducted a track from the nurse’s car to the halfway house where Reese lived. Once the officers arrived at the house, they found the missing nurse dead in the basement.
Reese was found with a knife and a glass smoking pipe and his ankle bracelet had been tampered with. He was arrested at the scene on unrelated charges.
Bond for Reese was set at a little over $1 million. He was charged with larceny and possession of drug paraphernalia and booked into the Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center.
On October 30, 2023, Reese was supposed to appear in court for his arraignment. However, his mental health needs was deemed too high by officials.
Reese refused to take part in a virtual hearing, which went on without him. The Connecticut State Police has taken over the investigation.
