On October 7, 2023, Hamas launched an invasion, breaching the Gaza–Israel barrier. On October 15, 2023, the McDonald’s franchise in Israel, which is owned by Alonyal Ltd., announced that it would donate meals to Israel Defence Forces troops.
After the announcement, other McDonald’s branches reminded their customers that each branch operates autonomously. In particular, franchise groups in Kuwait, Oman and Pakistan stated that they do not share any ownership with their counterpart in Israel.
On October 30, 2023, Khan and Hussain allegedly threw live rodents into McDonald’s restaurants in Birmingham, West Midlands. The mice were dyed in the colors of the Palestinian flag.
On October 31, 2023, the duo allegedly repeated the same crimes. In the evening, West Midlands Police officers raided the residence of Khan’s family in Hall Green, Birmingham but did not find him.
On November 1, 2023, Khan turned himself in to the West Midlands Police. Hussain is still at large.
