Tiara Wheeler of Norwich, New London County, Connecticut, United States died on August 28, 2023. She was 24.

That day, Wheeler was killed by a dirt bike crash that involved Scott Whipple, 25, of Mashantucket, Ledyard, New London County at the intersection of Long Hill Road and Meridian Street Extension in Groton, New London County.

A 2010 Audi Q7 traveling south on Long Hill Road had a green left turn light at the intersection of Meridian Street Extension. As it started to turn, several dirt bikes and all-terrain vehicles were also traveling north on Long Hill Road and into the intersection.

Wheeler and Whipple were the riders on one of the dirt bikes. Their bike entered the intersection and struck the right rear passenger section of the 2010 Audi Q7.

The driver of the 2010 Audi Q7 was transported to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London, New London County and released. Authorities did not release the name of the driver.

Whipple was transported to the same hospital. From there, he was airlifted to Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, New Haven County, Connecticut for treatment of his injuries.

At 7:30 a.m. on November 2, 2023, Whipple turned himself into the Groton Police Department. After being processed at the police department, he was released on a $200,000 surety bond later that day.

On November 16, 2023, Whipple will be arraigned in New London. He is facing 11 charges, including first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree manslaughter, reckless driving and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
