Maleesa Mooney was found dead inside her apartment at Skye at Bunker Hill Apartments in Los Angeles, California, United States on September 12, 2023. She was 31.
Mooney was a model. She also worked as a real estate agent at Nest Seekers in Beverly Hills, California.
In August 2023, Mooney moved to Skye at Bunker Hill Apartments. On September 6, 2023, she was seen in surveillance footage at the apartment complex.
When Mooney died, she had cocaine and alcohol in her system. She was beaten, tied up, gagged and wedged inside a refrigerator with pooled blood beneath it.
Both of Mooney’s wrists and ankles were bound together. The bindings were tied to each other behind her back with miscellaneous electronic cords and clothing items.
On October 5, 2023, the medical examiner concluded that Mooney died of homicidal violence. The beating she endured was not enough to kill her and the role drugs or alcohol may have played in her death cannot be determined, according to the medical examiner.
Mooney suffered blunt force trauma to her head, torso and arms with multiple lacerations and contusions. Prior to her death, she was likely involved in a violent physical altercation based on her injuries.
In the preliminary investigation, no signs of forced entry were evident at the crime scene. Authorities have yet to identify a suspect.
