John Albert Germain, 54, of Hartland, Hartland Township, Livingston County, Michigan, United States still insists he did not kill Virginia Cecelia Farrell on May 17, 1997.

That day, one of Farrell’s neighbors found her dead inside her home in Clay Township, St. Clair County, Michigan. She lived there alone. She was 79.

Farrell had been brutally beaten and stabbed. Authorities found no signs of a struggle.

The preliminary investigation of the Clay Township Police Department indicated forced entry into the house. However, nothing was stolen from the residence.

On November 6, 2023, Circuit Court Judge Cynthia Lane sentenced Germain to life in prison without parole. When he was given the opportunity to make a statement, he told the court he was innocent.
