Miss Universe Ukraine 2023 Angelina Usanova (Ангеліна Усанова), 26, is a humanitarian, a singer, a pianist, a composer, a certified yoga master and a sound healer. She is a peace ambassador of the Center for the Study of Extraterrestrial Intelligence.
“I’m inspired by the Ukrainian people who are overcoming their struggle with dignity, strength and hope,” Usanova stated. “I am inspired by people who never give up on things that matter to them.”
As a songwriter, Usanova writes and performs songs about peace, ecology and love. After completing her studies at ashrams in Austria and India, she received the title of yoga master.
While studying at a yoga center in Austria, Usanova learned that Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022. She and a friend from Moldova immediately organized assistance for more than 70 families from Ukraine.
Due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Miss Ukraine Universe was not held. On June 15, 2022, Miss Ukraine Universe 2021 first runner-up Viktoria Apanasenko (Вікторія Апанасенко) was officially appointed Miss Ukraine Universe 2022.
In the next edition, the competition was renamed Miss Universe Ukraine and was held through several rounds online. On August 16, 2023, Usanova was announced as the winner.
On September 7, 2023, Apanasenko officially crowned Usanova as Miss Universe Ukraine 2023 in the Hryshko National Botanical Garden near the Fountain of Peace in Kyiv, Ukraine. Pianist, composer, singer and songwriter Dmytro Shurov performed his songs during the ceremony.
Moreover, Usanova performed her song “Our Prayers will be Heard“. She and Shurov also performed a duet of his new song “We will Stick to Our People“.
On November 18, 2023, Usanova will represent Ukraine at Miss Universe 2023 at the José Adolfo Pineda Arena in San Salvador, El Salvador. She will compete against 84 other candidates including Margarita Golubeva (Маргарита Голубева), 22, of Russia.
If Usanova wins, she will be the first Miss Universe from Ukraine. Representing the European country, Olesia Stefanko was runner-up to Miss Universe 2011 Leila Lopes of Angola.
