Deep Alpesh Kumar Patel, 21, of Sarasota, Florida, United States is unemployed. At around 1:31 p.m. on October 21, 2023 he allegedly left a threatening voicemail for the World Jewish Congress in New York City, New York, USA.
“If I had a chance, I would kill every single one of you Israelis- every single one of you,” Patel allegedly said in the voicemail. “Cause mass genocide of every single Israeli.”
Patel reportedly identified himself by name in the voicemail. He even spelled his first and last names.
At around 2:51 p.m. on October 24, 2023, police officers went to Patel’s residence in Sarasota. He agreed to speak with the officers and presented his Florida driver’s license.
When asked about the voicemail, Patel confirmed he made the call but denied making threats. He explained that he had called Jewish centers to express his family’s anger with Israel for the genocide of the Palestinian people.
On November 1, 2023, U.S. Magistrate Judge Sean P. Flynn signed a criminal complaint filed by a Federal Bureau of Investigation task force officer against Patel.
Patel was charged with transmitting an interstate threat to injure. If convicted, he could face up to five years in federal prison.
