Miss Universe Spain 2023 Athenea Perez Nsué, 27, has a dog named Magic. It is a Great Dane, a large-sized dog breed originating from Germany.
“I can’t live without my Great Dane,” Perez shared. “His name is Mágic and has become my life partner.”
Like the Great Dane named Magic, the courage, life stories and strength of women around the world also inspire Perez. The Spanish-Equatoguinean gymnast, model and beauty queen shared, “I’m most proud of the resilience I have acquired, developed, and applied by facing several challenges in my life.”
Born to a Spanish father and an Equatoguinean mother, Perez is a strong advocate for racial integration in Spain. Hailing from Murcia, Spain, she wants to elevate and amplify social and racial causes worldwide.
On June 23, 2013, Perez represented Murcia at Miss World Spain 2013 and competed against 19 other candidates at Lago Martianrez in Tenerife, Spain. She was unplaced.
On September 18, 2019, Perez represented Murcia at Miss Universe Spain 2019 and competed against 17 other candidates at the Capital Theater in Madrid, Spain. She was runner-up to Natalie Ortega Gafjord of Barcelona.
On July 1, 2023, Perez represented Murcia at Miss Universe Spain 2023 and competed against 16 other candidates at the Los Olivos Beach Resort in Costa Adeje, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Tenerife. She won the title.
On November 18, 2023, Perez will represent Spain at Miss Universe 2023 at the José Adolfo Pineda Arena in San Salvador, El Salvador. She will compete against 84 other candidates including Diana Hinestrosa, 25, of Equatorial Guinea.
If Perez wins, she will be the second Miss Universe from Spain. The first one is the late Amparo Muñoz, who was crowned in 1974 in Manila, Philippines.
