Philippines’ PULP is a distinguished brand with a 25-year legacy in the music industry. Now, it is venturing into the film world with the introduction of PULP Studios.
This initiative underscores PULP’s unwavering dedication to entertainment and its profound passion for audience engagement. In 1999, the brand began with the launch of PULP Magazine, the longest standing music magazine in the Philippines.
In its first decade, marked by events like the PULP SUMMER SLAM—now, Southeast Asia’s longest-running rock and metal festival—PULP expanded its influence with the establishment of its subsidiary, PULP Live World Productions Inc., in 2010.
Recognized as one of the Philippines’ premier concert and event production companies, PULP Live World made its mark by organizing unique, themed shows and festivals. They have hosted global music icons such as Aerosmith, Cyndi Lauper and Kelly Clarkson, introduced bands like All Time Low and The Maine and showcased K-pop sensations including BTS, BLACKPINK, Super Junior, Stray Kids, NCT and Enhypen.
Beyond music, PULP has also brought international actors like Kim Seon Ho and Lee Jongsuk to the Philippine stage. With an ambition to diversify, it is launching PULP Studios, aiming to be a significant player in the global film industry.
Central to PULP Studios is its commitment to storytelling. Its debut film, inspired by the rich tapestry of stories shared between artists and fans, is an original creation by their chief operating officer Happee Sy Go. Titled “Ma’am Chief“, the film introduces a novel hero to the Philippines and the world.
“Ma’am Chief” features a stellar cast, including comedy sensation Melai Cantiveros-Francisco, Alora Sasam and Karylle Tatlonghari, complemented by surprise cameos. The action-comedy flick follows a policewoman on a secret mission to South Korea, disguising herself as a tour guide to apprehend a fugitive. Merging humor with suspense, it is set to be a standout in Philippine cinema.
Scheduled for release on November 15, 2023, “Ma’am Chief” represents a pivotal moment for PULP Studios as it debuts in filmmaking. As PULP celebrates its 25th year in music, this film project honors its illustrious history and signals the thrilling future of PULP Studios.
