“Poatan” Alex Pereira, 36, of São Paulo, Brazil is the new lightweight heavyweight champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, which is based in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. The Brazilian mixed martial artist won the title on November 11, 2023.
That day, the UFC held “UFC 295” at the Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York, USA. In the main event of the evening, Pereira and “Denisa” Jiří Procházka, 31, of Brno, Czech Republic competed for the then vacant UFC Light Heavyweight Championship title.
Marc Goddard served as the referee of the title bout. He stopped the fight after 4 minutes and 8 seconds in the second round.
Pereira was declared the winner via technical knockout via elbows. It improved his professional MMA record to 9 wins and 2 losses.
On the other hand, Procházka now has 29 wins and 4 losses. This is his first MMA loss since 2016.
On June 12, 2022, Procházka became the new UFC Light Heavyweight Champion by dethroning then champion Glover Teixeira of Sobrália, Minas Gerais, Brazil at “UFC 275” in Kallang, Singapore. After suffering a severe shoulder, the Czech MMA fighter vacated the title on November 23, 2022.
On December 10, 2022, Jan Błachowicz and Magomed Ankalaev fought to a draw for the vacant title at “UFC 282” in Las Vegas. On January 21, 2023, Teixeira and Jamahal Hill competed for the title at “UFC 283” in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Hill won via unanimous decision. After suffering an Achilles tendon rupture, he vacated the title on July 14, 2023.
