Marie Falconer, 19, of Hialeah, Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States is in jail. She picked up bricks and threw them at the windows of Martin Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Center in Miami, Miami-Dade County shortly after 7:00 p.m. on November 12, 2023, according to a witness.

Whether or not Falconer was attending the church has yet to be confirmed. The estimated total damage to the church was approximately $10,000. 

The witness gave Falconer’s description to the responding officers from the Miami Police Department. The responding officers saw the Hialeah woman walking near the church and arrested her.

Falconer was charged with criminal mischief of a church or place of worship. She was booked into the Turner Guilford-Knight Correctional Center in Miami.

Bond for Falconer was set at $7,500 bond. She has yet to post bond.

The African Methodist Episcopal Church was founded in 1794 by Richard Allen, who was born into slavery. He became a preacher at St. George’s Methodist Episcopal Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA in 1786 and died in Philadelphia on March 26, 1831 at age 71.

Currently, the church has 13 districts in the U.S. and seven in Africa. Although it is the first independent Protestant denomination with a black founder, it welcomes members of all ethnicities.
