Kelly Brock Koike of San Francisco, California, United States has died. She was 37.
Koike is half-Asian. She is Roya Koike‘s daughter.
Raised in Castro Valley, Alameda County, California, Kelly graduated from culinary school. She suffered from mental health issues, according to Roya.
In 2019, Kelly moved from Castro Valley to San Francisco. She worked as a concierge in San Francisco and lived on the streets of the city.
Emilia Beckhusen, 33, and Alexander Madden, 26, are accused of murdering Kelly. Whether or not Beckhusen and Madden are also San Francisco residents has yet to be confirmed.
“I don’t think it’s a hate crime,” Roya told NBC Bay Area. “I do know she would go to extremes from nothing. I think that’s most likely what happened.”
At around 7:24 p.m. on August 13, 2023, a dog walker found Kelly dead outside the Outside Lands Music Festival grounds in Golden Gate Park in the Richmond District in San Francisco. It was the third and final night of the festival.
Kelly’s body was stuffed into a large duffel bag, which was left at the north end of the park. The county medical examiner initially ruled her death suspicious and the cause of her death has yet to be determined.
The San Francisco Police Department arrested Madden on November 2, 2023 and Beckhusen on November 4, 2023 both on a Ramey warrant for unlawful disposal of human remains and conspiracy. A judge or a magistrate issues a Ramey warrant before a prosecutor files formal criminal charges.
