Joseph Ortega of Las Vegas, Clark County, Nevada, United States is still a police officer. In 2017, he joined the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Currently, Ortega is assigned to the West Community Policing Division of the Northwest Area Command. He is expected to be placed on suspension of police powers without pay.
On November 16, 2023, Ortega was arrested on four felony charges. He was charged with two counts of child abuse or neglect and two counts of assault domestic violence with the use of a deadly weapon.
Ortega was booked into the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas. On December 21, 2023, he will attended a preliminary hearing in Clark County Justice Court in Las Vegas.
Currently, the LVMPD has more than 5,000 members. On July 1, 1969, it was formed by merging the Las Vegas Police Department with the Clark County Sheriff’s Department.
