Sheynnis Alondra Cornejo Palacios, 23, of Nicaragua was crowned Miss Universe 2023 at the José Adolfo Pineda Arena in San Salvador, El Salvador on November 18, 2023. She is the 72nd holder of the title.

Including Palacios, a total of 84 women competed for the title. She is the first Miss Universe from Nicaragua.

Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo, 31, Jeannie Mai, 44, and Maria Menounos, 45, hosted the Miss Universe 2023 coronation ceremony with Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, 29, and Zuri Hall, 35, as the commentators. John Legend, 44, performed during the ceremony.

At the end of the show, R’Bonney Gabriel, 29, of the United States passed her crown to Palacios. Also, Mexican businessman Raúl Rocha Cantú announced in a video presentation that Miss Universe 2024 will be held in Mexico.

The exact date and venue of the Miss Universe 2024 coronation ceremony have yet to be confirmed. So far, two candidates have been confirmed to compete for the title namely Jia Qi, 23, of China and Indira Ampiot, 19, of France.

This will be the fifth time Mexico is hosting Miss Universe. The country currently has three Miss Universe crowns, which were won by Lupita Jones in 1991, Ximena Navarrete in 2010 and Andrea Meza in 2020.

Miss Universe 1978 Margaret Gardiner of South Africa was crowned at the Centro de Convenciones de Acapulco in Acapulco, Mexico on July 24, 1978. Miss Universe 1989 Angela Visser of the Netherlands was crowned at the Fiesta Americana Condesa Hotel in Cancún, Mexico on May 23, 1989.

Miss Universe 1993 Dayanara Torres of Puerto Rico was crowned at the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City, Mexico on May 21, 1993. Miss Universe 2007 Riyo Mori of Japan was crowned at the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City on May 28, 2007.
