Saulo Cardoso Ferreira, 37, of West Tisbury, Martha’s Vineyard, Dukes County, Massachusetts, United States is originally from Brazil. He is a sex offender residing in the U.S. illegally.
After raping a child, then 5, in Brazil, Ferreira was arrested and convicted of multiple crimes. He was sentenced to 14 years in prison.
However, Ferreira did not show up to serve his sentence. Instead, he fled Brazil and hid in the U.S.
How and when Ferreira entered the U.S. is still unclear. The fugitive is wanted by Brazilian authorities for failing to serve his prison sentence for the crime, according to Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
In May 2019, a court in Sorriso, Mato Grosso, Brazil issued a warrant for Ferreira’s arrest. On September 28, 2023, ERO agents first learned of his presence on Martha’s Vineyard.
On November 14, 2023, Ferreira was arrested during a vehicle stop near his residence in West Tisbury by officers with ERO’s office in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. He will remain in ERO custody pending removal proceedings, according to ICE.
