A warrant sweep was conducted in Michigan, United States by the office of Michigan attorney general Dana Nessel, the police department of Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan and other law enforcement agencies on November 16, 2023. It was conducted in nine Michigan counties namely Ingham, Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Mecosta, Oakland, Roscommon, Saginaw and Wayne.
In the statewide warrant sweep, nine people were arrested for operating as unlicensed builders and fraud against the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA). According to Nessel, some targets are still out of custody.
Consumer complaints to the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) initiated cases against the unlicensed builders. Here are the nine arrestees:
- Darrell Kendrick, 65, of Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan was arrested for misdemeanor fraud against the UIA.
- Eddie Mosely, 54, of Auburn Hills, Oakland County, Michigan was arrested for misdemeanor fraud against the UIA.
- Jimmie Turner, Jr., 69, of Berkley, Oakland County, Michigan was arrested for operating as an unlicensed builder.
- Maurice Mills, 45, of Inkster, Wayne County, Michigan was arrested for misdemeanor fraud against the UIA.
- Michael Hill, 66, of Houghton Lake, Roscommon County, Michigan was arrested for operating as an unlicensed residential builder.
- Miroslav Matieska, 49, of Hamtramck, Wayne County, Michigan was arrested for operating as an unlicensed builder.
- Robert Mills, 50, of Romulus, Wayne County, Michigan was arrested for operating as an unlicensed builder.
- Patrice Nolden, 51, of Eastpointe, Macomb County, Michigan was arrested for misdemeanor fraud against the UIA.
- Tanya Parker, 48, of Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan was arrested for misdemeanor fraud against the UIA.
The UIA provides unemployment benefits to eligible workers who become unemployed or underemployed through no fault of their own and meet certain other eligibility requirements. The agency determines claim and benefit eligibility.
The temporary financial assistance is provided by the unemployment insurance program administered by the UIA. Benefits are paid through taxes on employers covered under the Michigan Employment Security Act.
