Former Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter “The One” Derek Brunson, 39, is currently in Washington, D.C., United States. Fighting out of Wilmington, New Hanover County, North Carolina, USA, he has just earned his first Professional Fighters League victory.
Brunson is 6’1″ tall. As a professional mixed martial artist, he competes in the middleweight division.
On May 22, 2010, Brunson made his professional MMA debut. He competed in the UFC from December 29, 2012 to March 4, 2023.
2023 PFL World Championship
The PFL held the world championship of its 2023 season at The Anthem in in Southwest Waterfront, Washington, D.C. on November 24, 2023. The partnership between the league and DUDE Wipes started during the event and will continue in 2024.
There were 11 matches on the card including six title bouts. The main card had seven bouts and the preliminary card had four bouts.
One of the bouts on the main card was between Brunson and “Bradda Boy” Ray Cooper III, 30, of Pearl City, Hawaii, USA. They battled it out at a catch weight of 187 pounds.

Kevin Mulhall served as the referee of the catchweight bout between Brunson and Cooper at the 2023 PFL World Championship. After three 5-minute rounds, the referee raised the hand of the fighter from Wilmington, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
The loss downgraded Cooper’s professional MMA record to 25 wins, 9 losses and 1 draw. He was the PFL Welterweight Champion in 2019 and 2021.
On the other hand, Brunson now has 24 wins and 9 losses. It was his first PFL bout.
A total of six countries were represented at the 2023 PFL World Championship, namely Brazil, Canada, Peru, Russia, Sweden and the U.S. Brunson and Cooper were two of the 13 fighters from the U.S.
