Jason Middleton, 35, of Central Islip, Town of Islip, Suffolk County, New York, United States worked as a corrections officer in the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office’s Riverhead Correctional Facility in Riverside, Suffolk County. He was tasked with guarding inmates.
Middleton is accused of threatened one of the inmates he was guarding. He allegedly said if the inmate ever disobeyed him, he would plant contraband in the inmate’s cell that would likely result in additional criminal charges filed against the inmate.
On a date between April 26, 2023 and September 29, 2023, Middleton allegedly escorted the inmate into a utility walkway between jail cells. The area is a blind spot in security camera coverage.
Once inside, Middleton allegedly closed the door and ordered the inmate to perform oral sex upon him. The inmate complied.
On November 2, 2021, Raymond A. Tierney was elected as the Suffolk County district attorney. On January 1, 2022, he assumed office.
On November 24, 2023, members of the district attorney’s public corruption squad arrested Middleton. He is expected to be placed on supervised release.
On November 25, 2023, Middleton will be arraigned in Southampton Town Justice Court in Hampton Bays, Town of Southampton, Suffolk County for the charges of third-degree criminal sexual act and official misconduct. Under current New York state law, these offenses are not bail eligible.
Along with members of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s office of professional standards, district attorney’s public corruption squad’s senior investigator Reinhardt Andersen and assistant special investigator Brian Wood investigated the case. Public Corruption Bureau chief Kevin Ward and deputy chief Laura de Oliveira are prosecuting the case.
