Gabriela Alexandra Cartaya Neufeld, 26, is a teacher at South Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, United States. It is part of the Charlotte Mecklenburg School District.
Originally from Boone, Watauga County, North Carolina, Neufeld was a student office assistant at Appalachian State University in Boone from May 2016 to May 2020. From January 2017 to June 2017, she worked as a part-time veterinary technician at the Animal Emergency Clinic of the High Country in Boone.
In May 2019, Neufeld graduated from Appalachian State University with a bachelor’s degree in ecology and evolutionary biology. In May 2020, she obtained her teacher certification from the same university.
On October 18, 2023, Neufeld allegedly had sex with a South Mecklenburg High School student, 18, at Park Road Park in Charlotte. They allegedly had sex again at least four more times before her arrest.
At around 5:00 p.m. on November 29, 2023, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers arrested Neufeld. She was booked into the Mecklenburg County Detention Center in Charlotte.
At around 3:20 a.m. on November 30, 2023, Neufeld was released after she posted a $75,000 bond. She was charged with five counts of felony sexual activity with a student by a teacher.
