Douglas E. Cooper, 79, of Acton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States is accused of having sexually explicit chats online with someone he thought was a boy aged 14. Aside from Acton, the elderly man has lived in other parts of Massachusetts including Groton and Westford.

Shortly after 4:20 p.m. on December 2, 2023, the Acton Police Department was called to the listed address for the property of the Acton Housing Authority in Acton. Responding officers found Cooper, who allegedly tried to meet up with the purported boy.

Cooper was interviewed at the facility. He was arrested and charged with enticement for sex involving a child under the age of 16.

Unbeknownst to Cooper, the person he was communicating with online was an adult posing as a boy aged 14. The elderly man agreed to meet the purported teenager at the parking lot of the South Acton commuter rail station in Acton for the purpose of a sexual encounter.

The identity of the person posing as a child was not revealed. The person was a third party and not a police officer, according to the Acton Police Department.

Bail for Cooper was set at $7,540. After not posting bail, he was transported to the Middlesex Jail and House of Correction in Billerica, Middlesex County where he is being held until he appears in court.
