Eliexander Lopez-Burgos, 23, of no fixed address, has been arrested in Glendale, Arapahoe County, Colorado, United States. He was wanted on an arrest warrant issued by the Superior Court of the District of Columbia in Washington, D.C., USA.
Lopez-Burgos is accused of fatally shooting Carlos Javier-Blanco Fernandez, 38, no fixed address. Whether or not the two knew each other is still unknown.
Javier-Blanco was an immigrant from Venezuela. In September 2023, he and several other refugees arrived in Washington, D.C. from Texas, USA by bus.
On the afternoon of November 16, 2023, Javier-Blanco was in the parking lot of an Exxon gas station in Northeast, Washington, D.C. working on his car when a van drove up. Lopez-Burgos allegedly fled after opening fire, hitting Javier-Blanco.
At around 5:16 p.m., Metropolitan Police Department-Fifth District officers responded to the scene and found Javier-Blanco with gunshot wound injuries. He was transported to a hospital where he died.
On December 4, 2023, members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force located Lopez-Burgos in Glendale and arrested him. He was charged with first-degree murder while armed.
After the extradition process, Lopez-Burgos will be returned to Washington, D.C. where he will face charges. There are still no details about how he was identified as the suspect who shot Javier-Blanco.
