Georg Gauger, 22, of Germany is attending the Elliott School of International Affairs, the professional school of international relations, foreign policy and international development of George Washington University in Washington, D.C., United States. The school is around 2.4 miles away from the Philip A. Hart Senate Office Building, the third U.S. Senate office building in Washington, D.C.

Currently, Gauger is on leave to complete a professional year as a desk officer at the Bundesministerium für Arbeit und Soziales, which is Germany’s federal ministry of labor and social affairs. He is also a research assistant for the climate team of the federal ministry based in Berlin, Germany.

Gauger knows Aidan Santos Maese-Czeropski, 24, of Menlo Park, California, USA. The latter was a staffer in the office of Maryland senator Ben Cardin, 80, from October 2021 to December 15, 2023.

While Maese-Czeropski was still employed there, he allegedly had sex with Gauger in Hart 216, the judiciary room of the Philip A. Hart Senate Office Building. The Elliott School of International Affairs student allegedly filmed the act and shared the video to a private social media group chat.

“In this very room: Sonia Sotomayor had her confirmation hearing,” Gauger allegedly captioned the video. “James Comey testified on Russian interference in the 2016 elections. Aiden got some thick German sausage and a jager sauce finish.”

Sonia Sotomayor, 69, assumed office as an associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court on August 8, 2009. James Comey, 63, served as the seventh Federal Bureau of Investigation director from September 4, 2013 to May 9, 2017.

On December 15, 2023, the video of Gauger and Maese-Czeropski having sex inside a U.S. Senate conference room went viral. That day, the American man from Menlo Park wrote on LinkedIn, “This has been a difficult time for me, as I have been attacked for who I love to pursue a political agenda.”

“While some of my actions in the past have shown poor judgement, I love my job and would never disrespect my workplace,” Maese-Czeropski continued. “Any attempts to characterize my actions otherwise are fabricated and I will be exploring what legal options are available to me in these matters.”

On December 16, 2023, Cardin fired Maese-Czeropski. Meanwhile, Gauger deleted his social media accounts and he has yet to release a statement.
