Born biologically male, Kendall Stephens, 37, of Point Breeze, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States identifies as female. She is a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) activist.
On August 24, 2020, Tymesha Wearing, then 36, punched Stephens in the mouth outside the transwoman’s residence in Point Breeze. The attacker then pushed the victim into the residence.
Inside the residence, Wearing continued to punch Stephens in the head. The former knocked the latter to the ground.
“You are a man,” Wearing allegedly told Stephens. “You deserve this.”
At the time, Stephens was a junior at Temple University in Philadelphia studying public health. On February 7, 2023, Wearing pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, conspiracy and a hate crime.
Judge Nicholas Kamau sentenced Wearing to 11.5-23 months of house arrest with electric monitoring with no parole eligibility until 18 months of home confinement. She was also ordered to perform 120 hours of community service, write a letter of apology to Stephens and complete a court-mandated anger management program.
On March 29, 2021, Stephens attended a news conference held by 26th Philadelphia district attorney Larry Krasner, then 60. During the event, she helped launch an LGBTQ+ advisory board.
On December 18, 2023, Stephens was arrested. That day, she had a preliminary arraignment in Philadelphia Municipal Court in Philadelphia.
Stephens is accused of raping two boys. The Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General charged her with rape, endangering the welfare of children, obscenity to minors, corruption of minors, unlawful contact with minors, involuntary deviant sexual intercourse and indecent assault against people less than 13 years of age.
Bail for Stephens was set at $250,000. On December 29, 2023, she will be back in court.
