Sarah Kester, 34, of Larksville, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, United States is a teacher at the Wyoming Area School District in northeastern Luzerne County and southeastern Wyoming County, Pennsylvania. She has been suspended with pay.
Kester is accused of giving three students gummies laced with Delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol. This psychoactive substance has intoxicating effects similar to those of Delta-9 THC, the psychoactive chemical in marijuana, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Aside from Delta-8 THC, Kester also allegedly gave nicotine vape pens to the students and tried to give them pickle-flavored vodka. She allegedly asked the students to throw eggs at the residence of her ex-fiancé but they refused to do so.
On September 25, 2023, the Wyoming Area School District placed Kester on leave. The Wyoming Valley Regional Police started investigating the allegations against her.
On December 18, 2023, Kester was arrested. She was arraigned on one count of attempted corruption of minors and three counts of corruption of minors.
Bail for Kester was set at $7,500. She was released after posting bond.
On January 23, 2024, Kester will attend a preliminary hearing in Luzerne County Central Court in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County. She will continue to be on leave while the investigation is ongoing, according to the Wyoming Area School District.
