Korey Hicks, 30, of Mooresville, Brown Township, Morgan County, Indiana, United States went to his parents residence in Mooresville on December 24, 2023 while his parents were out of town. It was a violation of a judge’s order prohibiting him from being at the residence.
At around 6:00 p.m., a neighbor saw Hicks there and called police. Morgan County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived and entered the residence to arrest him because
Hicks allegedly threatened to shoot the deputies with a rifle. The deputies went out, set up a perimeter and asked the neighbors to leave the area out of precaution.
That evening, Hicks barricaded himself in the residence. The deputies learned that he had warrants out for his arrest for domestic battery, disorderly conduct and invasion of privacy.
The special weapons and tactics (SWAT) teams of Morgan County and Johnson County, Indiana arrived to assist. Hicks ignored the messages the officers sent to him via cellphone and social media.
After the officers put tear gas in the residence just before 10:00 p.m., Hicks surrendered without incident. He was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Mooresville.
Morgan County Sheriff’s Office deputies took Hicks to the Morgan County Jail in Martinsville, Washington Township, Morgan County after he was evaluated in the hospital. He could be facing additional charges in connection to the standoff, according to the Morgan County Prosecutor’s Office.
