Paul Anthony Nicholson Jr., 37, of Enfield, Halifax County, North Carolina, United States is not a Halifax County Schools employee but he served as a volunteer coach at Southeast Collegiate Preparatory Academy in Halifax, Halifax County.
On December 20, 2023, the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office received a report accusing Nicholson of strangling a student at Southeast Collegiate Preparatory Academy a few days earlier. On December 28, 2023, he was arrested and charged with felony assault by strangulation.
A magistrate set Nicholson’s bond at $2,500. On January 3, 2024, he will appear in court.
According to Halifax County Schools, Nicholson is no longer associated with the system. He is no longer listed on Southeast Collegiate Preparatory Academy’s staff directory in the school’s website.
Founded in 1740, Enfield is the oldest town in Halifax County. The town used to be home to the largest raw peanut market in the world.
Born in Enfield, John Thomas Alsop Jr. served as the mayor of Jacksonville, Florida, USA from 1923 to 1937 and from 1941 to 1945. On May 12, 1958, he died in Jacksonville at age 83.
