Karrem Nasr, 23, of Lawrenceville, Lawrence Township, Mercer County, New Jersey, United States is a U.S. citizen and is also known as Ghareeb Al-Muhajir. He is a supporter of al Shabaab, a designated foreign terrorist organization that has attacked Americans and U.S. allies, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

On July 16, 2023, Nasr moved from Lawrenceville to Egypt to study Arabic. After the terrorist attack of Hamas in Israel on October 7, 2023, he was motivated to become a jihadi.

In November 2023, Nasr started expressing his desire and plans to join al Shabaab to receive military training and engage in jihad while communicating with someone he thought was a facilitator for terrorist organizations. Unbeknownst to the Lawrenceville resident, he was actually talking to an FBI confidential source.

Nasr went on to book a flight for December 14, 2023 from Egypt to Kenya where he planned to meet al Shabaab members and transit to Somalia to join and train with the organization. That day, he did fly from Egypt to Kenya and was taken into custody in Nairobi, Kenya.

On December 28, 2023, Nasr was transported from Nairobi to the U.S. On December 29, 2023, he appeared in federal court in Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA before U.S. Magistrate Judge Barbara Moses.

Federal prosecutors charged Nasr with attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization. The charged carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in jail.
