Senegal is home to fashion model Khoudia Diop, 27, who is also also known as the Melanin Goddess. The country, which became a republic on November 25, 1958, is bordered by Mauritania in the north, Mali to the east, Guinea to the southeast and Guinea-Bissau to the southwest.
In January 1959, Senegal united with Mali to become the Mali Federation, which gained independence from France on June 20, 1960. Senegal withdrew from the federation in August 1960 and was admitted to the United Nations on September 28, 1960.
Macky Sall, 62, is Senegal’s incumbent and fourth president. He assumed office on April 2, 2012 and was reelected on February 24, 2019.
