Charles Oliveira, 34, of São Paulo, Brazil and Arman Tsarukyan, 27, Yerevan, Armenia will battle it out at the Ultimate Fighting Championship event “UFC 300” at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Clark County, Nevada, United States on April 13, 2024. The bout is a UFC lightweight title eliminator.
On May 15, 2021, Oliveira won the then vacant UFC Lightweight Championship title by beating Michael Chandler via technical knockout at “UFC 262” in Houston, Texas, USA. The Brazilian mixed martial artist successfully defended the title at “UFC 269” at the T-Mobile Arena by submitting Dustin Poirier via rear-naked choke.
On May 7, 2022, Oliveira was supposed to defend the title from Justin Gaethje at “UFC 274” in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. While the Brazilian champion won via rear-naked choke submission, he was stripped of the title because he missed weight.
The reigning UFC Lightweight Champion is Islam Makhachev, 32, of Makhachkala, Dagestan, Russia. He won the belt when he and Oliveira competed for the then vacant title at “UFC 280” in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on October 22, 2022.
Makhachev submitted Oliveira via arm-triangle choke. The Dagestani champion successfully defended the title twice from Alexander Volkanovski at “UFC 284” in Perth, Australia on February 12, 2023 and at “UFC 294” on October 21, 2023.
Currently, Oliveira holds a professional MMA record of 34 wins, 9 losses and 1 No Contest. Tsarukyan has 21 wins and 3 losses.
From 2019 to 2023, Tsarukyan fought 10 UFC opponents, defeating eight of them. When the Armenian MMA fighter made his promotional debut at “UFC Fight Night 149” in Saint Petersburg, Russia on April 20, 2019, he lost to Makhachev via unanimous decision.
On June 25, 2022, Tsarukyan lost to Mateusz Gamrot via unanimous decision at “UFC Vegas 57” in Enterprise, Las Vegas Valley, Clark County. Both Tsarukyan’s fights against Makhachev and Gamrot were named the Fight of the Night.
The eight UFC opponents Tsarukyan defeated between 2019 and 2023 were Olivier Aubin-Mercier, Davi Ramos, Matt Frevola, Christos Giagos, Joel Alvarez, Damir Ismagulov, Joaquim Silva and Beneil Dariush.
