Malachi Yoder, 26, of Elkhart, Elkhart County, Indiana, United States is originally from Goshen, Elkhart County. He went to Concord High School in Elkhart.
Yoder was employed as an Elkhart County Corrections officer. On November 27, 2023, he took the oath of office.
Between 6:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024 and 6:00 a.m. on January 3, 2024, Yoder was assigned to the medical ward at the Elkhart County Jail in Elkhart. During his shift, he allegedly had sex with a female inmate in the medical ward.
Surveillance video showed Yoder entering the inmate’s cell eight times near the end of his shift. Each time, his body camera was not activated.
When interviewed by investigators, the inmate said she and Yoder had consensual sex and they did not use protection. She was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Elkart for a sexual assault nurse examination.
Based on the evidence that was collected, the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office terminated Yoder. Upon further investigation, he was ordered arrested.
Bond for Yoder was set at $10,000. He was booked into the Elkhart County Jail and charged with sexual misconduct with a service provider,
