Pamela Reed, 41, of Pleasant City, Guernsey County, Ohio, United States and her husband have two daughters together. The children were born in 2013 and 2016.
Reed claimed that her younger daughter had several conditions including acute myeloid leukemia. The mother posted online photos of the girl’s treatment and collected around $8,000 from her fellow Pleasant City residents.
The girl is attending Shenandoah Elementary School in Sarahsville, Noble County, Ohio. She missed more than 280 days during the 2023-2024 school year.
Reed told the school that the girl was blind in her right eye and would be having a port implanted for her cancer treatments soon.
On January 4, 2024, a school administrator found out that the child neither has nor had cancer or leukemia. Detectives received a report claiming that Reed was lying about her younger daughter’s illnesses.
On January 8, 2024, Reed was arrested and charged with theft by deception. When interviewed by police officers, she tried to continued to lie but later admitted to exaggerating and fabricating medical conditions to receive monetary donations from organizations.
On January 9, 2024, Reed was arraigned. Represented by a public defender assigned to her case, she will be back in court on January 16, 2024 for a preliminary hearing.
Bond for Reed was set at $50,000.
