Sunnie Nguyen, 17, of Vietnam is on an exchange program in South Australia, Australia. She is a year 11 student.
Since June 2023, Nguyen has been living in the house of her host family in South Plympton, Marion, South Australia with two other exchange students. Her routine was to go to school, return home for dinner and make videos with the two other exchange students.
May Zervaas is Nguyen’s host mother. Because Sunnie is not fluent in English, she usually relies on someone to translate, Zervaas’s daughter Mary Zervaas told Daily Mail Australia.
At around 7:00 p.m. on January 8, 2024, Sunnie had dinner with her host family at their house in South Plympton then went to her room. At around 11:00 p.m., May went to check Sunnie’s room and found out that the teenager was not there.
Also missing were Sunnie’s laptop, backpack and important identification documents some of her clothes. There were were no signs of forced entry into the house.
At 11:30 p.m., May called police to report Sunnie missing. Since then, the teenager’s social media accounts have been deleted and her phone has been turned off.
On January 11, 2024, Sunnie’s best friend moved into May’s house. Sunnie still has three years left on her study visa and she is still missing.
In December 2023, three other exchange students went missing in South Australia. Authorities have yet to confirm if they are associated with Sunnie.
