“Hui” Lee Hoe-taek (이회택), 30, released “WHU IS ME: Complex” on January 16, 2024. It is the Pentagon leader’s first extended play as a solo artist.
That day, Hui held a media showcase in Seoul, South Korea for the EP. He introduced himself as a solo rookie artist and admitted that he was nervous about the unveiling of the album, according to The Korea Herald.
The EP has four tracks including “Hmm BOP“. The music video of the song has been released.
Born in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, Hui started as a JYP Entertainment trainee. In 2012, he graduated from ModernK Music Academy in Seoul.
In 2013, Hui joined “Chinese Idol” and was dropped out from the show after ranking 60th. In the same year, he left JYP Entertainment and joined Cube Entertainment, which formed Pentagon with Hui as the leader and one of the vocalists and dancers.
Cube Entertainment released Pentagon’s self-titled debut EP on October 10, 2016 and the group’s debut studio album “Universe: The Black Hall” on February 12, 2020. Universal Music Japan released the group’s second studio album “Universe: The History” on September 23, 2020.
On December 21, 2023, Cube Entertainment confirmed the release of Hui’s debut EP. The title of the album and the release date were announced that day.
Currently, Pentagon has 10 members. Hui’s bandmates are mononymously called Jinho, Hongseok, Shinwon, Yeo One, Yan An, Yuto, Kino and Wooseok.
