Renee Marie Portillos of Pueblo, Pueblo County, Colorado, United States has died. She was 47.
Portillos attended Centennial High School in Pueblo and worked at Sonic Drive-in. She has three children.
Solomon X. Martinez, 26, is accused of killing Portillos and dismembering her body. He shared an apartment with Joshua Mazzurco and Mazzurco’s wife.
In December 2023, Martinez was hired as a private security guard by a private security company run by former Pueblo County sheriff Dan Corsentino. According to Martinez, he picked Portillos up on the evening of January 8, 2024 and they had sexual intercourse.
Martinez claimed that he refused to pay when Portillos demanded money and dropped her off safely at around 2:00 a.m. on January 9, 2024. He was at a car wash wearing clothing covered in blood and dirt at around 5:00 a.m. and he later used a pressure washer to clean his hands, according to Mazzurco.
Later that morning, Martinez allegedly offered to knock $1,000 off Mazzurco’s debt if he agreed to help him dig a 10-foot hole. The roommate declined and informed a friend, who called the police.
At around 3:47 p.m. on January 10, 2024, Pueblo Police Department officers found the body of Portillos near Fountain Creek. It was decapitated and some parts were missing.
In the evening, officers arrested Martinez while he was on duty at the Sangre De Cristo Arts Center in Pueblo and found Portillos’s severed hand in a plastic grocery bag in his left chest jacket pocket. He told them she probably was killed by a man who borrowed his car before returning it to him that day.
According to police officers, Martinez was having a hard time remembering his location and he was being deceitful. He was charged with first-degree murder and booked into the Pueblo County Jail in Pueblo.
Bond for Martinez was set at $1 million. On January 23, 2024, he will attend a motions hearing.
