Toyosi Bakare of Joliet, Illinois, United States has died. He was 28.
Bakare was originally from Nigeria. In 2020, he moved to Will County, Illinois.
On January 21, 2024, Bakare was found with a gunshot wound to the head at Pheasant Run Apartments in Joliet. He was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
On the same day, a man, 42, was found with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his leg in Joliet. Authorities have yet to identify who shot the man and Bakare.
On January 22, 2024, officials from the Will County Sheriff’s Office and the Joliet Police Department found seven people dead in two neighboring residences in Joliet. Five victims were found in the first house and two victims were found in the second house.
Romeo Nance, 23, resided at one of the two houses. He is accused of fatally shooting the seven victims.
Nance is 6’2″ tall and he weighs around 160 pounds. He is still at large and is believed to be driving a red Toyota Camry.
The fugitive taskforce of the Federal Bureau of Investigation is assisting in tracking Nance down. Whether or not he and Bakare knew each other has yet to be revealed.
