Romeo Nance of Joliet, Illinois, United States has died. He was 23.
In 2019, Nance was arrested after allegedly stealing cellphones from two victims and possessing cannabis. He was charged with two counts of theft and two counts of robbery, which were dropped, and unlawful possession of cannabis, which he pleaded guilty to.
On January 3, 2023, Nance allegedly tried to shoot a woman, then 36, multiple times. On January 26, 2023, he was arrested by Joliet Police Department officers and charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, obstructing a peace officer, aggravated assault, aggravated discharge of a weapon and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
On March 10, 2023, Nance posted $10,000 of a $100,000 bond and was released. He was supposed to be back in court on February 1, 2024.
On January 22, 2024, officials from the Joliet Police Department and the Will County Sheriff’s Office found five people dead in a residence in Joliet and two people dead in a nearby residence. Nance resided at one of the two houses.
The victims were Tameka Nance, 47, Christine Esters, 38, William Esters II, 35, Joshua Nance, 31 and Alexandria Nance, 20. The other two victims were aged 16 and 14.
Romeo allegedly escaped after fatally shooting the seven victims, who are family members. In the evening, U.S. Marshals found him at a Chubby’s gas station in Natalia, Texas, USA.
At 8:30 p.m., Romeo fatally shot himself at the gas station. He used a handgun.
Authorities are investigating if Romeo was also the same person who shot Toyosi Bakare, 28, and another man, 42, in Joliet on January 21, 2024. Bakare was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead while the other victim had non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his leg.
