On the afternoon of April 7, 2023, Aylin told her mother she was going back to the U.S. to see Luna. Later that day, the teenager was found dead in Anáhuac, Juarez.

According to the autopsy report, Aylin was shot five times and stabbed five times. Luna was identified as the suspect.

On September 23, 2023, U.S. Marshals arrested Luna and he was charged with aggravated femicide. The Chihuahua state prosecutor’s office requested an order to extradited the Fort Bliss soldier to Mexico.

In El Paso, Luna appeared before a judge to appeal the order and the judge denied the appeal. Now, it is up to the federal authorities of Mexico and the U.S. to carry out the legal extradition process.

“They tell me it is a process that takes long but they have all the necessary elements, including DNA, video footage, text messages and even pictures,” Ysabel told KTSM. “I just want justice for my daughter.”
