Both Vince McMahon, 78, and Janel Grant, 43, are residents of Connecticut, United States. From 2019 to 2022, she was an employee of WWE, a professional wrestling promotion he co-founded.

On June 17, 2022, McMahon stepped down as the chairman and chief executive officer of WWE. But on January 10, 2023, he returned as the executive chairman.

On September 12, 2023, McMahon and Ari Emanuel co-founded TKO Group Holdings, a media conglomerate created by Endeavor Group Holdings as part of a merger between WWE and Ultimate Fighting Championship‘s parent company Zuffa. McMahon and Emanuel became the respective executive chairman and chief executive officer of TKO.

On January 25, 2024, Grant filed a lawsuit against WWE, McMahon and former WWE executive John Laurinaitis, 61. They had a threesome on December 20, 2020 and on March 6, 2021, according to the lawsuit.

Grant accuses McMahon of abusing her, sexually exploiting her and trafficked her to Laurinaitis and other men. On June 15, 2021, McMahon and Laurinaitis allegedly sexually assaulted Grant inside Laurinaitis’s office in the WWE headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut.

In a statement obtained by Variety, McMahon described Grant’s lawsuit as “a vindictive distortion of the truth”. According to him, the lawsuit is replete with lies and obscene made-up instances that never occurred.

“I intend to vigorously defend myself against these baseless accusations, and look forward to clearing my name,” McMahon stated. “However, out of respect for the WWE Universe, the extraordinary TKO business and its board members and shareholders, partners and constituents, and all of the employees and Superstars who helped make WWE into the global leader it is today, I have decided to resign from my executive chairmanship and the TKO board of directors, effective immediately.”
