Rodrigo Canuela de Leon Sr., of Granada Hills, Los Angeles, California, United States, his wife Arabella Rodriguez de Leon and their children Rodrigo Rodriguez de Leon Jr. and Merceditas Rodriguez de Leon have died. Rodrigo Sr. was 79, Arabella was 80, Rodrigo Jr. was 53 and Merceditas was 49.
Granada Hills is at the foothills of the Santa Susana Mountains. The neighborhood is served by the Devonshire Community Police Station of the Los Angeles Police Department.
Aside from Granada Hills, Rodrigo Sr. lived in other parts of California including del Sur, Fremont and Northridge. He and Arabella have another daughter, who has special needs.
At around 6:50 p.m. on January 27, 2023, Rodrigo Sr. allegedly fatally shot himself after fatally shooting Arabella, Merceditas and Rodrigo Jr. inside their residence in Granada Hills. During the shooting, the couple’s daughter with special needs barricaded inside of a room and called police.
When officers arrived and knocked on the door, no one answered so they had to force entry. The surviving daughter met them and directed them to Rodrigo Sr., Arabella, Merceditas and Rodrigo Jr.’s bodies.
Rodrigo Sr.’s body was in a different area of the house. Investigators have yet to determine a motive.
