Nataly Martinez of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, United States has died. She was 22.
Freddy Renteria, 25, of Charlotte was Martinez’s boyfriend. He is accused of causing her life-threatening condition.
On February 1, 2024, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department was called to a residence on Strider Drive in Charlotte. The house is behind Piney Grove Elementary School.
Martinez was found unresponsive at the residence. The police officers who were at the scene discovered that her condition may not have been natural.
Paramedics took Martinez to Novant Health Matthews Medical Center in Matthews, Mecklenburg County where she died later that day. According to a preliminary autopsy, her death was a homicide and not natural causes.
The highway patrol of Mississippi, USA helped the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department locate Renteria, who had a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital in Mississippi, USA.
Originally, Renteria was charged with attempted first-degree murder. It was upgraded to murder after Martinez died.
