On May 12, 1994, Mann was killed at his residence in Austin, Texas. He was 46.

That day, Robbins broke into the residence through a rear sliding glass door. When Mann came home from work, he was repeatedly stabbed by Robbins.

Mann’s wife found him dead in the entryway. Robbins was injured while committing the crime so left blood at the scene, which was collected by detectives.

In 2005, detectives with the cold case unit of the Austin Police Department found deoxyribonucleic acid in the blood stain sample the detectives collected. No match was found when the DNA profile was uploaded to the Combined DNA Index System.

In March 2023, the Austin Police Department sent the DNA profile to Bode Technology, which used genetic genealogy to identify Robbins as a possible suspect in Mann’s case. In June 2023, the private lab returned results to the department.

Robbins was a long-haul truck driver. On September 8, 2023, he refused to speak with detectives who went to his work to serve a search warrant.

The detectives took a sample of Robbins’ DNA. It matched the blood of the burglar who fatally stabbed Mann.

On September 13, 2023, the owners of the trucking company he worked for contacted the Austin Police Department. His truck parked at a truck stop in Weatherford, Texas had not moved for a suspicious amount of time.

The Austin Police Department contacted the Weatherford Police Department, which conducted a welfare check. Robbins was found dead in his truck.

An autopsy revealed that Robbins took his own life. He was survived by his wife, their daughter and his five stepchildren.
