Osareen Omoruyi, 51, of Ducklington Lane, Witney, Oxfordshire, England, United Kingdom is male, Matthew Barber, 42, insists. Since May 13, 2021, the latter has been serving as the police and crime commissioner of the Thames Valley Police, which is responsible for policing the Thames Valley in South East England, England.

Omoruyi is originally from Georgetown, Guyana. In 1995, Omoruyi graduated from Oxford House College in London, England.

On February 7, 2024, Omoruyi allegedly sexually assaulted a boy in Witney. The boy did not know the suspect, according to the Thames Valley Police.

On February 9, 2024, Omoruyi was charged with two counts each of sexual assault by penetration and causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. On February 10, 2024, the Witney resident appeared at Oxford Magistrates’ Court in Oxford, Oxfordshire.

Since Omoruyi self-identified as a female, the Thames Valley Police treated Omoruyi as such. The police force explained that it was in accordance with College of Policing Authorised Professional Practice.

On the other hand, Barber believes that the police force mistakenly relied on the self-described gender in publishing a press release referring to Omoruyi as a woman. According to Barber, magistrates in Oxford have remanded Omoruyi to a male prison.

“In my view it was clearly wrong to describe the suspect as a woman,” Barber stated. “It is important that the public, and possibly other victims have a clear understanding of the facts. It is important that statistics around sexual offending are accurate.”
