Whether or not Humphrey and Mooney knew each other is unclear. He was identified as the suspect responsible for her murder.

On December 6, 2023, Humphrey was charged with murder and torture. Included in the murder charge is a special allegation of murder during the commission of torture.

Investigators have yet to release details about what led them to Humphrey. While on probation for federal narcotics offenses, he was arrested on February 21, 2024 at his residence in Hopkins on a federal warrant not related to Mooney’s murder.

Humphrey has waived extradition proceedings. He agreed to be brought back to Los Angeles.
